The NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse semifinals and championship was hosted at Stony Brook again this year.

I covered the Northwestern-Maryland semifinal game on Friday evening and will be writing a story about the Northwestern-Syracuse championship game Sunday. Northwestern has been to eight straight finals and has a slew of Long Island natives on its roster.

The Press Club of Long Island hosted the SPJ Region 1 Conference at Stony Brook University on March 23-24.

More than 50 guest speakers presented lectures about journalism and communications. Columnist Ellis Henican delivered the keynote address during the conference.

As a member of PCLI, I was on the Conference Committee and assisted as a Student Advisor for the #R1C2012 Working Press student-run news group.

Northwestern beat Maryland, 8-7, in this year’s NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse national championship at Stony Brook’s Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Northwestern’s eight goals were all scored by Long Island natives, including four from Shannon Smith, New York’s all-time leader in points and goals and a West Babylon alum.

Vaccaro was there to host a live blog for Lacrosse Magazine, file a sidebar for LaxMagazine.com and write notebooks and sidebars for various Patch.com sites.
