While attending the media sessions for this year’s Empire Challenge all-star football game, run by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, Sachem Patch caught up with Esiason and chatted about the former NFL quarterback’s championship loss to Sachem in 1978.
Esiason blamed a rib injury for his weak performance, which consisted of going 4-for-11 passing for just 33 yards. Famously, East Islip only crossed the 50-yard line once in the contest, which Sachem won, 15-0. It was Sachem’s second of three straight Suffolk County titles.
